Income Tax!! – Learn and Serve

Would you like to learn a valuable skill AND help low-income and other community members?  Become a volunteer tax assistant, intake officer, and/or greeter for this upcoming tax season!

United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) seeks volunteers for several centers in the Pensacola / Milton area including the Pensacola State campuses.  As a volunteer, you will receive a level of substantive training commensurate with the position you choose . . . and then you’ll get to put your skills and knowledge into play with real-world clients in a supervised setting.

Each year, Florida’s college students spend thousands of hours serving their communities while making a lasting difference in the lives of countless individuals. Florida Campus Compact is pleased to honor three of Florida’s most dedicated student service scholars who are making a positive impact through their contribution of service.

The student recipients of the 2011 Excellence in Service Awards will each receive free registration to the 2012 Student Scholars’ Institute and visible recognition for their efforts throughout the state.

Holiday Meals at Fricker Center

Fricker Resource Center, located in a low-income, high-crime area of Pensacola, continues its holiday tradition of providing meals and toys for hundreds of children and families who might otherwise do without.

Thanksgiving – Tuesday, November 22 (meal)

Christmas – Saturday, December 17 (toys and meal)

Help Foster Kids Party with Santa

Team Make a Difference’s 5th Annual Breakfast with Santa is coming up….and YOU are needed to make this party happen for Escambia and Santa Rosa County foster children.

EscaRosa foster children will get to meet Santa, enjoy breakfast, play holiday-themed games, receive a gift, “purchase” a gift for their foster parents with “Santa Dollars”, and then learn how to wrap their gift.  This is a great way for foster kids to have fun and say thank you to their foster parents.

What:  Help with setting up, breaking down, food service, moving children around the event, working various games, wrapping gifts, and more.  Donations of adult and child gifts, food, decorations, wrapping materials, and money *greatly* appreciated.

When:  Saturday, Dec 10, 8 am – 12 noon (plus set-up Fri, 3 pm – 7 pm, and Sat 7 am – 8 am; and breakdown Sat afternoon)

Where:  Location undisclosed – volunteers will be told the location after signing a confidentiality agreement.

Bridges Out of Poverty – Be One!

Bridges to Circles, a new initiative of Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, seeks allies to help individuals and families escape generational poverty. 

Training will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm:  Thurs, Nov 10, or Thurs, Dec 1 and

                                                                 Thurs, Nov 17, or Thurs, Dec 8   

                                                                 1815 N 6th Ave, Pensacola

There is also a poverty simulation with debriefing and a poverty rally on Sat, Nov 19, on the Pensacola State campus.
